Making Shapes with Giraffe Communications

2009 has seen new challenges for MOD. There is nothing here we can’t handle or find for your event. That is exactly what we said to Giraffe Communications when they approached us looking for entertainment for an event they were organising to celebrate the launch of their new brand.

They were looking for something different and that is what they got in the form of contortionist Rae Piper, and musicians Rik Sanders and Vo Fletcher. Alev Dervish from Giraffe Communications said “Our contortionist Rae, and musicians Rik and Vo were perfect They created just the right atmosphere, and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening.”

A Dickensian Christmas

A quick snap of Abi and Michaela at a Dickensian Christmas Party this month. They normally perform a set of 18th century material but for this event they moved forward a century and made some appropriate new frocks - all by themselves.

Doctor Doctor

I know but that’s what we’ve been doing this week. Doctors the BBC TV series needed a band for an episode so we put one together for them.
Here’s one they made earlier - our band is on in a couple of weeks

Hurtling Through The Centuries

We are having an amazing November - must mention just a couple of the highlights:
From the cutting edge of The Hello Digital after party where we supplied some mellow tunes from Vo Fletcher and Ric Sanders to the Lord Stafford Innovation Awards in the wonderful setting of Worcester Cathedral where again Vo and Ric set the mood just right - not easy when you have Elgar looking down at you from his Stained Glass Window.
A couple of photos here - glorious.

“Let’s have the party right here”

“Let’s have the last night party right here” said Jean the manager of the wonderful Birmingham Opera Company.
So with our favourite DJ Marc Reck who took the photos below, a pork roast, a couple of top veggie choices off went the cast, crew and guests late into the, thankfully warm, August night. We’ve done private parties, house parties, warehouse parties but this was our first factory party:

Brides do change their minds

Of course we oblige.. but following two last minute mind changes recently we now have a wonderful singer all rehearsed to sing Ave Maria in Latin - was going to be sung in church and, hard to believe, but following a last minute request we have 3 singers all rehearsed to sing a love song in Swahili - lovely tune but yes perhaps could have been lost on the Stratford on Avon congregation! Looking forward to more challenges.

Birmingham Opera Company Does It Again!

We like being inspired here at Music Of Distinction and nothing inspires us locally as much as The Birmingham Opera Company.

I went to the opening night of King Idomeneo on Tuesday and it is another masterful production. I know Mozart was only 24 years old when he wrote this but even so musically there are moments that I could live without but that’s made up for by the great musical moments - especially involving the chorus, with some accompanying moves that David Byrne would be proud of.

After the kerfuffle with Arts Council England at the beginning of the year it was a celebration just to see this taking place at all and once again anyone who works in the arts of any sort can’t help but come away from this inspired by the sheer imagination and quality of delivery shown by the Birmingham Opera team.

It’s running until the end of next week - dates are here
